21 September - Knestis Comes up One Short in SARRC Title Chase

Brian

To
win the SARRC title, Kirk Knestis had to beat Jay Marlowe and his Toyota at
the
2008
SARRC Invitational Challenge at Roebling Road in Georgia. Unfortunately, Knestis
finished two behind him (3rd) so earned the runner-up spot in the final season
points. "We
should be pleased to be so high up the SARRC points," said the disappointed
Team GTI
driver, "but I'm sorry not to have been able to put Cameron's hardware
up front today. I
guess 'consistent' is going to get beat by 'consistent but faster' pretty much
every time."

Tom
Hoppe took his recently purchased ITA Honda Integra to a first-in-class finish
in the
Road Atlanta SARRC sprint, in a solid 7-car field. Hoppe's victory at his home
track
capped a weekend that also included an ECR enduro class win for Kirk Knestis'
ITB Golf.

Members
of Team GTI's regular enduro line-up fought back after their Golf was assaulted
during an optimistic pass by another competitor, to win ITB at the 12 Hours
at the Point.
Jon Kofod, Kirk Knestis, Phil Phillips, and newcomer Chris Perera won by four
laps, over
perpetual class rival York Motorsports' MkII VW Golf.

Team
GTI driver Kirk
Knestis had a successful month of May, scoring four SARRC points,
only two weeks apart. Achieving this feat at the VIR and CMP double events puts
the Conover-prepared Golf at the top of the SARRC
Improved Touring B points table.

Conover
Motor Sports customer Grant MacDonald successfully completed the SCCA
double driver's school weekend at Georgia's Roebling Road Raceway, with individual
support from CMS "factory shoe" Bowie Gray. Performance coaching with
available
in-car data acquisition is an option for at-track support packages, new for
2008.

Bowie
Gray drove Kirk Knestis' VW Golf to a solid victory at the prestigious American
Road Race of Champions (the ARRC) at Road Atlanta. This important sprint win
cements
the reputation of "Pablo" the Golf as an all-around performer, able
to hold his own in
sprint races as well as enduros as long as 24 hours.

Drivers
Greg Amy, Phil Phillips, and Matt Brown scored Team GTI's second major club
racing
enduro in as many tries on November 4th, with an ITB victory at the Virginia
International
Raceway 13-hour endurance classic. The team finished an amazing 17th overall
of 76 official
starters, entered in what should have been one of the slowest classes running
in the event.

Christian
Shipp took his Conover-supported Honda CRX to his first Regional win - and two
additional podium finishes - at Daytona, Florida on the last weekend of September.
Shipp
has been steadily working his way toward the front of the ITA field so this
win was far
from a complete surprise to observers.

Thomas Lyman hammered the HomeLife
Communities Acura Integra through to a 2nd-place finish
at the SARRC Invitational Challenge on September 23rd, cinching the
SARRC championship with
Conover Motor Sports race preparation and at-track support. Watch for Lyman
as he takes on
some of the best IT cars in the U.S., at the American Road Race of Champions®
in November!
